Fridays in Athens are my favorite day. It’s “laiki” day on Xenokratous Street, just a few steps from my apartment.
This wonderful, beautiful lady sold me a handful of parsley for my lunch that I’m cooking today for some friends that I’m hosting.
“What are you cooking?” She asked me.
“Yiouvarlakia,” I told her.
“I’ll tell you a secret, throw some carrots, a potato and a few celery sticks into the broth as it’s boiling. It does wonders for the flavor.”
She proceeded to throw in my bag a potato, a few carrots and some celery.
I said “What do I owe you?” And she said “send me a good wish when you’re eating, that’s all.”
